How to Make Beaded Ruffles Earrings with Seed Beads and Jump Rings

How to Make Beaded Ruffles Earrings with Seed Beads and Jump Rings

Hello fellow crafters! So, I've had the idea of creating a series of tutorials for seed bead dangle earrings. Over the next few weeks, I'll be posting a tutorial with a new design for all of you seed bead enthusiasts who might enjoy a brand new way to use them!

Here is the first of the series - the earring version of my beaded ruffles bracelet, which you can find here.

You will need:

    • 22 size 6 seed beads
    • 46 jump rings
    • 2 ear hooks
    • 2 pairs of smooth-jawed jewellery pliers

A note about the jump rings:

After some experimenting with jump ring sizes, I think I've come up with the best combination of sizes to make these earrings dangle nicely, whilst being able to thread size 6 seed beads through them:  rings with an inner diameter of 4.5mm for the rings with beads, and rings with an inner diameter of 5mm for the middle rings, all made with 1mm thick wire.

A note about the seed beads:

You need the seed beads you choose to have holes large enough to slip through your rings, so go for quality seed beads that are uniform in size, like Miyuki or Toho.

    Step 1:

Open a 5mm ring and loop it through the hole in the ear wire, then close.

    Step 2:

Open another 5mm ring and loop it through the first ring, then close.

    Step 3:

Repeat step 2 until you have a chain of 6 x 5mm rings.

    Step 4:

Open a 4.5mm ring and thread a bead through it. This time, don't close it yet.

    Step 5:

Weave the beaded ring through the bottom 5mm ring on your chain.

Your work should now look like this:

    Step 6:

Add a bead to another 4.5mm ring and weave the ring through the next 5mm ring on your chain.

    Step 7:

Add another beaded 4.5mm ring to the other side of the same 5mm ring on your chain.

    Step 8:

Add 2 more 4.5mm beaded rings to the next 5mm ring up on your chain. Continue repeating this step until you have 2 4.5mm beaded rings on every 5mm ring.

    Step 10:

Repeat all the steps to make your second earring.

The colour possibilities for this design are endless! I chose these  blue and purple lentil-shaped seed beads, and you can buy the kit to make these exact earrings by clicking the button below:
